Chameleon Babies
Chameleons dig deep holes to lay their eggs in. They are in a large clump and the female collapses the little cave she has dug and buries the eggs. For a couple of days she will smooth over the area she has covered up, and then her part is over. They can lay as much as 90 eggs at a time, but usually mine lay about 55. In the wild, as the eggs grow in size, they crush adjacent ones, and between that and predators, only a small amount survive. In captivity, we dig up the eggs after a couple of days, and place them spaced out in an incubator for 10 months. All but a few usually survive.
They carry a small sack that provides nourishment for their first few days. They eat baby crickets right from hatching .. and usually have prolific appetites.
