Chameleons
These are Veiled Chameleons. They make great pets. They are easy to care for. Their tongues are 1.5 times the length of their bodies. They lay eggs in clutches of up to 90 at a time - but usually around 55. They take 10 months to incubate.
If you are wanting to handle them, make sure you get them at about 8 weeks of age, and handle them twice a day so that they get used to it. Never pick them up. Always let them walk onto your hand. If you are not planning to breed them, make sure you get a male. They are the only chameleons you can tell the gender right from hatching. The males have a little nub of flesh on the rear of both back feet.
Chameleons do NOT change colour according to their surroundings. Their colours change on their moods (emotions).
They do NOT explode if you put them on plaid.
Chameleons need running water so there is always a fountain nearby (on a timer). They also need basking lights and a UV lamp (also on timers). Some bulbs combine the 2 types of lights needed.
I use a network of IP cameras and timers that are programmed through my iPhone. They are accessible via the internet from anywhere in the world.
I can monitor the house, around the house, and control all cameras, lights, fountains, motion detectors, etc ... remotely.
This is for accessibility not security - since the German Shepherds on patrol are always hungry.
