Just keeping Wayne from getting too close to my bride!
Grade 10 memories ...
We got a computer put in and this was the first year I got to take programming! Yee Ha! Poor Mr. Bruns ... he handed out the whole year's assignment at the beginning of the year. I finished them all before the end of the first semester. He said "OK - you have 100% for every semester. You don't have to come to class any more."
And he was good to his word. It was the only class I got 100% in - and it set the tone for my career. But I didn't goof off. I ended up writing programs that interested me. I wrote a Hex Conversion program and made the mistake of showing Mr. Bruns. I regretted that! He made me teach the class. LOL. He always sat on a book, and I remember him putting a book on the chair and sitting on it in the front row, as I taught the class. He was like a keen student sitting there asking me questions.
To be fair, computers were fairly new, and I was learning things from hanging around the I.T. department (called D.P. back then) at my father's company. Bob Wilkins was his manager, and he was a gifted and natural teacher. Bob - you created a monster! Thank you.
I remember when they were upgrading their computer (a mainframe!) to a 32K machine. I remember them saying "What are you ever going to do with 32K?" LOL
Now they sell computers at Costco with 250,000 times that amount of memory for home use!
